
Authorities Detain Individual as Nancy Guthrie Investigation Expands

TUCSON, Arizona — Law enforcement activity intensified in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, with multiple detentions and a SWAT operation unfolding near her Tucson home.
A local law enforcement source confirmed that at least one person has been detained in connection with the case.
Officials have not yet publicly released the individual’s name or specific details about the circumstances surrounding the detention.
The development comes as investigators continue searching for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, who was reported missing on February 1.
She was last seen at her Tucson residence on January 31 after being dropped off by her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, following dinner with him and her daughter, Annie Guthrie.
In a related operation, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a SWAT response in a neighborhood approximately two miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home was connected to the broader investigation.
Deputies blocked East Placita De Graciela and East Camino de Michael during the operation, placing the area under temporary lockdown.
According to authorities, three individuals were detained during the SWAT action. Officials also confirmed that one person died during the incident.
The idenтιтy of the deceased has not yet been released, and investigators have not clarified whether the death was the result of an officer-involved shooting or other circumstances.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department stated that the situation remains under active investigation and that additional details will be released once verified.
During the law enforcement operation, a Range Rover was towed from a Tucson parking lot after being involved in a traffic stop connected to the case.
Authorities have not confirmed who was driving the vehicle or whether it is directly linked to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
Investigators have previously appealed to the public for tips, including surveillance footage from neighborhoods near the Catalina Foothills residence where Nancy Guthrie lived.
Amid the escalating search, reports have surfaced alleging tensions between the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation over the handling of physical evidence.
Claims suggest that Sheriff Chris Nanos has blocked the FBI from analyzing certain materials collected during the investigation.
Sheriff Chris Nanos has previously denied accusations of withholding evidence, stating that cooperation between local and federal agencies remains ongoing.
The FBI, under Director Kash Patel, has significantly increased its involvement in the case, including raising the reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Heith Janke has confirmed that federal agents, analysts and support staff are working alongside the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities have not identified a confirmed suspect in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. The case is being treated as a suspected abduction after investigators reported finding concerning evidence at her home.
President Donald Trump has stated that federal resources are being fully deployed to ᴀssist in the search.
